As communities grow, the need for more schools and spaces for students becomes more apparent. That is what prompted the Dickinson Independent School District in the Lago Mar area to build its eighth elementary school, Dickinson Elementary 8. Located within Galveston County, Dickinson, Texas, and Dickinson ISD have seen a steady population growth rate, much like many Greater Houston Area cities. The new school was designed to relieve the overcrowding in the other elementary schools in the district and accommodate the increasing student enrollment rate, which was about 13% over the past six years.
Project Overview
Construction on the new elementary school broke ground on September 30, 2024, and the site utilities phase began in December of 2024. This school will be equipped with the space to serve up to 1,400 students in grades pre-k through 5th. The school is set to be open to students this upcoming school year. The Myrex team is proud to have worked on this project, contributing and fabricating 847 tons of steel.
Building a Strong Infrastructure
Buildings like schools are designed to serve many generations to come. A strong infrastructure makes this possible. Steel remains the material of choice for building infrastructures because it can provide the strength to last many decades. Steel has a high strength-to-weight ratio, making it perfect for large open spaces you commonly see in schools like gyms, cafeterias, and auditoriums.

Benefits of Prefabricated Steel Components
Like with any project requiring steel, many of the steel components that make up Dickinson Elementary 8 were prefabricated and assembled on site. This offers significant benefits for the construction process by allowing faster construction timelines, greater quality control, and improved site safety.
