School districts in Texas have grown significantly in recent years. Conroe ISD, one of these growing districts, was in need of more room for its growing student population. In 2023, voters approved a $1.9 billion bond package that would fund eight new school campuses, including the Grand Oaks Feeder School for 7th through 9th-grade students.

Project Overview

The new 7th-9th grade campus will be located directly behind Grand Oaks High School and span 391,000 square feet. The school is set to open in August of 2027. The construction is being carried out in 14 phases, with Ellisor Constructors, Inc. serving as the general contractor overseeing the project. The footage above features phases 1–3, 4, 6, and 7. To keep the project on schedule, two cranes are being used simultaneously during steel erection. Supporting the structure is 2,097 tons of fabricated steel, supplied and fabricated by the team here at Myrex Industries.

Creating Unique Designs: Grand Oaks Feeder School Arches

One of the most unique and striking design elements of the new Grand Oaks Feeder 7–9 Campus School is the eye-catching arches. While the arches add a beautiful and aesthetic design to the entrance, they also demonstrate the versatility and strength of structural steel. While steel provides the much-needed support for the building as a whole, it can also be used to create and support architectural features.

Structural Steel: Supporting Modern Educational Buildings

Modern educational facilities require more than just space. The materials and design need to be flexible, durable, and strong. Structural steel offers unmatched strength to allow for large, open spaces, such as auditoriums, cafeterias, gyms, and multipurpose spaces. This is especially important for school districts with a growing population. Steel is a material that not only meets the construction and design needs but will provide the building with support for decades.
