The new Splendora Junior High School is set to open in the summer of 2025. Myrex Industries was chosen to provide and fabricate the steel for this project. The general contractor on the project is Joeris General Contractor. The building will cover a total of 192,759 square feet and will feature approximately 680 tons of steel. This project was a part of a bond that the community voted on and passed in 2022. The two-story academic building will feature a large area for band and orchestra, and two gyms, one being a competition gym.

“Once finished, it will be a stunning school, and I feel proud to have been part of this project—it has been a fantastic experience,” Project Manager Eric said. “The students will surely appreciate the new facility and all the amenities it provides.”

Accommodating a Growing Community

The current junior high school was built in 1978. Since then, the community has grown and is projected to continue to grow significantly with new housing developments in the area. Today, Splendora ISD serves over 4,000 students. This is a stark contrast to the just under 1,000 students that were enrolled when the school was built. With the rising student population and expansion of technology in education, the current aging building could no longer meet the needs of the school district. Because steel is customizable, flexible, and versatile, the architects and school officials were able to develop a design that meets the needs of the staff and faculty’s work functions and supports the educational requirements of the students.

Large, Multi-Functional Spaces

As the school district grows, the need for larger spaces to accommodate the students and activities increase. In the design for Splendora Junior High School, the practice gym and competition gym are both expansive areas that require unobstructed space. This means that these rooms cannot have support columns in the center to support the roof. The versatility of steel makes it possible to create unique designs like this one.

Durable Buildings for Years to Come

Steel is a perfect building material for educational buildings like Splendora Junior High School. Steel is a strong, long-lasting material that stands up well against environmental factors. It provides a strong framework for the systems and equipment that need to be integrated into the building.
